The dictionary describes dormant as being in an inactive state, when growth and development slows or ceases, in order to survive adverse environmental conditions.
I was recently watching a video on changes in Alaska as the ice is receding. They are saying that some ground is seeing daylight that hasn’t seen daylight in thousands of years. This ground has been covered by ice and snow for so long, nothing has grown, and nothing could survive, nothing but seeds. I was so shocked that they were showing ground that they were saying had only seen sunlight light for just a week or so, and there was already grass growing. I was asking myself, how is that even possible? On the internet I quickly found that the soil must be above 40°F for most seeds to germinate. Dormant seeds need two things to move from being dormant to being active; heat and water.
We often find similarities between nature and Spiritual things. If you have never figured out why, it’s because God created both, and therefore, they live by similar laws.
Romans 11:29 Paul said, For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.
II Timothy 1:6 Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.
Much like dormant seeds the gifts and calling of God are lying dormant in people across our world, waiting to be stirred up. We are waiting for those two important thing, water and heat. Jesus told Nicodemus, that he had to be born of the water and of the Spirit. God didn’t change, so why would the instructions change? We are still charged with following Acts 2:38. It’s time to find the water and the heat and it’s time to stir up the gift, it’s time to find the dormant gifts.
People have flown over Alaska for years seeing nothing, seeing no growth, seeing no life. They have built in their own minds what Alaska should, could and would always be; thousands of square miles of snow. But…just underneath a thin layer of ice lies a forest, lies more life, more seeds, more potential then you have ever seen in your life.
In the last days, God will pour out his Spirit upon on all flesh. How will that happen? He will use the dormant seeds. He will use the stirred up gifts. He is going to take people that no one saw potential that no one saw life, and He is going to bring forth the gifts and He is going to change the world using them.
